I need to figure out whether to upgrade to QuarkXPress or Adobe InDesign...

I'd really like to stick to the industry standard to keep things easier for running print ads, unfortunately I have no idea which one that is. Anyone know anything about this subject?

I've been busy.

Not taking photos, unfortunately.

I started a new job at an energy company here in New York. I'm an Information Systems / E-Marketing Specialist. That's "elaborate job title" talk for IT guy that also does fun photography/design stuff. I'll be rebuilding the company's website and creating new marketing materials. I couldn't imagine a more perfect job for myself at the moment.

As a result, I've had to learn CSS, PHP and standards based design.

DA Journal CSS is a little restricted (for good reasons) so it's taking me a while to get this the way I'd like it to be. I'll improve on it later. If anyone knows the names of the different classes (like .journaltext) and what they do, that would help me out a lot.

And, thanks to my new job, I now have a new car! :)


It's a 2009 Honda Civic, my first brand new car.

I'll get out and take some new photos, soon. I just need to settle down a little first.

I've never been able to capture it so well with just a camera.

A good friend of mine captured an image similar to this a year or two ago, just using a point & shoot Coolpix and his telescope. He simply placed the camera lens to his telescope eyepiece and kept shooting until he got a sharp image. I couldn't believe he did it. His, of course, filled much more of the frame than mine (this is cropped & sharpened.)

The moon is also surprisingly bright. This is 1/320 @ F/11 and ISO 400. Manual exposure is a must, the meter never gets it right.

One of these days he's planning on getting a tracking system and a camera mount, so we can try our hands at astrophotography together.

And I just got my hands on a 32GB CF card for Nassau :) That's almost the size of the Wolverine CF Reader/HDD that recently died on me - taking quite a few images with it.

I think I'm going to switch to one of those awesome pre-made CSS templates for this journal soon.

For the past several days I've been putting together a set of maps (based on information from Google Earth) to find new and old locations to shoot on the island. It's a short trip, so I plan on concentrating on Paradise Island's beautiful beaches - the Northern stretch to be exact.

I'll be reshooting a few images that made their way here years ago. You won't find those in my gallery, a few people may remember them. I'd also like to try a few new locations if I have time.

So, does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, Christen won't be amused if I don't take her shopping... so any good suggestions there would be very appreciated as well :)
